to the early Gothic Christian influence of linear
and simple depictions, forward to the beginnings
of the Renaissance where once more the human shape
starts to develop a realistic identity.

"Sword And Sheath," "Scholar's Studio" And "Red, White And Blue" - The Color Red
[ send me this paper ]
8 pages in length. The color red in any context indicates strength, power and even defiance; in some cases, it also means a statement about war, conflict and other strife. Compared to all other colors of the rainbow, the color red is symbolic of political, social and religious ideals where a strong statement needs to be made. Within the art world, the color red represents the same indicators, often utilized in such a way as to blend with softer colors in order to temper the strength so prominent in red. Three countries with artists who proudly use red as a reflection of their nations' history are Africa, Korea and the United States, with red being a prominent color in Sword and Sheath, Scholar's Studio and Red, White and Blue. The theme associated with red in each of these works of art illustrates how each artist utilizes the color to represent strong emotional attachment to his or her country. Bibliography lists 9 sources.

"Vertumnus And Pomona" By Boucher
[ send me this paper ]
3 pages in length. Francois Boucher's artwork is particularly intriguing due in great part to the social and political changes that were occurring during this time period, a metamorphosis Boucher creatively adapted into his paintings. Restrictive devices that heretofore kept a tight leash on what and how artists could craft their talents all but disappeared during this European rebirth, with the likes of Boucher taking every opportunity to display a much more elaborate, whimsical and even daring perspective. The royal court appreciated his unique style as well, having purchased and exhibited several of his pieces. Vertumnus and Pomona oil on canvas from 1757 is a good example of how the French artist establishes a more playful attitude during this era. Bibliography lists 1 source.
