The paper shows that throughout history, women’s role has been largely seen as procreative, and completely under the domination of the paternalistic authority -- whether it be father, husband, or society. Only as the twentieth century neared do we see women’s roles in society -- and their responsibilities toward it -- becoming commensurate with men’s. Bibliography lists five
