A great relaxation of Russian-American tensions has taken place since the Cold War, and it is much less likely we will see the sort of superpower confrontations that took place during the Cold War, such as the Berlin Blockade of 1948-1949 and the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. There now appears to be a pattern in which we see U. S. – Russian global cooperation, as we saw by the closely coordinated Russian and American policies toward Iraq after it invaded Kuwait.
